The Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization met Oct. 12, in the school library, with 40 members in attendance. The group discussed the Raider Run, trick or treat and a book fair.

Safe trick or treat at the Tamaqua Elementary School will be held Oct. 25, while trick or treat at Rush Elementary School will be Oct. 26. Rush students will have a Halloween parade on Oct. 29. Details can be found in student folders.

A book fair is scheduled at Rush Elementary School. Family night will be Oct. 28. The public is welcome.

Anyone interested in supporting the students is welcome to become a member. The organization will be accepting memberships through Dec. 31. Tara McCarroll-Stauffenberg is in charge of the membership drive.

Trick or treat

The following is a list of local community trick or treat nights submitted to the TIMES NEWS Tamaqua office:

Rush Township - Oct. 31, 6-9 p.m.; Tamaqua Borough - Oct. 31, 6-8 p.m.; Schuylkill Township - Oct. 31, 6-8 p.m.

Anyone interested in treating the ghouls and goblins should leave on their outside/porch lights.

Calvary UM

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m. Also on Sunday, an evening of praise, worship and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday prayer and praise services are held at 7 p.m.

Rally Day will be held Nov. 7, featuring "Heaven Bound Clown Around" and the Brothers in Grace Gospel Quartet.

Democrats to meet

The Eastern Schuylkill Democrats will meet Monday, at 7 p.m., at the East End Fire Company.

First Methodist

The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at a combined worship service Sunday at 10:45 a.m. in First United Methodist Church. Members of Salem United Methodist Church will also participate.

Activities in First UM for next week include: Tuesday, Quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Senior Choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m.

Bible study sessions will begin Oct. 26, based on "The Miracles of Jesus." Sessions will be held every other week, Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays at 11 a.m.

The churches have combined to offer an outreach ministry to U.S. troops serving abroad by purchasing "Biblesticks," a digital audio device preloaded with an entire New Testament. For more information call (570) 668-3653.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. A children's service will be included. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.
