Veterans Day event will bring history to life

Published October 25. 2010 05:00PM

This Veterans Day, area teachers can bring history textbooks to life for their students during a free event to honor the heroic veterans of World War II on Thursday, Nov. 11, presented by Blue Ridge Communications and the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN).

High school students and history faculty are encouraged to attend this educational experience.

At 6:30 p.m., stop by the Palmerton VFW, located at 2020 Forest Inn Road, to hear two Pennsylvania veterans, Ed Kyler and Grant Lee, as they share their wartime experiences.

Both veterans were featured in PCN's popular World War II books, "World War II: In Their Own Words" and "World War II Reflections."

Kyler, who joined the army on his 18th birthday, was a paratrooper and a member of the 101st Airborne Division.

Lee, a gunner on an LST, transported men and supplies for the D-Day invasion. He also served in the invasion of Okinawa.

Kyler and Lee will each give a formal presentation followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience.

Both books will be available for purchase and can be signed by the veterans. Light refreshments will also be served.

To learn more about the books visit the PCN website at http://www.pcntv.com/wwii/index.html.

Organizers are hoping area students and teachers will join them for a memorable journey back in time to pay tribute to those who preserved freedom for us all.
