Five local teams in soccer playoffs
Three local boys teams and two girls teams have qualified for this year's District 11 tournament.
After running through the regular season with an 18-2 record, the Pleasant Valley boys' soccer team was given the No. 3 seed in the District 11 AAA soccer tournament.
The Bears lost the MVC championship to Pocono Mountain East in penalty kicks last Thursday. Furthermore, they have not won a district playoff game since 2005. The Bears will play their first-round game against No. 14 seed Pocono Mountain West at home on Wednesday.
In the AA bracket, both No. 5 Tamaqua and No. 6 Northwestern will be on the road this Thursday. The Blue Raiders will play at No. 4 Salisbury at 5:30 p.m., while the Tigers will travel to No. 3 Moravian Academy for a 3:45 p.m. start Northwestern defeated Moravian 1-0 in its only meeting on Sept. 15.

GIRLS SOCCER
Only three girls' teams made the AA playoff and Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua are two of them. The Olympians and the Raiders will play at Blue Mountain at 7:30 p.m. this Wednesday. The winner will face top-seeded Blue Mountain Wednesday, Nov. 3 for the district championship.
Tamaqua defeated Jim Thorpe 7-0 back on Sept. 9.
