Tamaqua man cited for assault

A noise complaint to Tamaqua police on Saturday, Oct. 23, turned out a little differently than the caller envisioned.

Edward C. Roeder, 62, of 199 Owl Creek Rd., called police at 4:15 p.m. to complain about a noisy pick up truck that kept driving past his home, traveling faster than the posted speed limit. Patrolman Peter Wysochansky spoke with Roeder, telling him he would respond to his home as soon as he was finished with an incident he was investigating.

Before Wysochansky could get to Owl Creek Road he received a report that Terry Kranch, of 187 Owl Creek Road, had been confronted by a man carrying a weapon. Kranch said he was operating a Chevrolet pick up truck back and forth along the road in an attempt to repair it. He was reportedly waved down by Roeder, who allegedly started an argument about the amount of noise Kranch was making. Kranch said Roeder had a black handgun and pointed it in his direction at which time Kranch got back into his truck and drove away.

Roeder told the officer he did wave down Kranch to complain about the noise but claimed Kranch pulled into the driveway and began threatening him with physical violence. Kranch was allegedly throwing his arms in the air and issuing threats, causing Roeder to pull out his handgun. The officer noted an odor of alcohol emanating from Roeder, who will be cited for simple assault and reckless endangerment.
