Schuylkill driver facing charges

Published October 28. 2010 05:00PM

A Schuylkill County driver is facing charges, including driving under the influence (DUI), following an incident that occurred about 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26, along SR895, a tenth of a mile west of Fort Lebanon Road, in Auburn.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said George Warfield, 67, of Auburn, was operating a 1995 Ford F150 truck westbound after being involved in a hit and run and attempting to flee the scene. After traveling across a bridge over the Schuylkill River Warfield lost control of the truck. The truck traveled across the center line and into the eastbound lane where it began to turn in a counter-clockwise direction. The truck then went onto the south berm and collied with a PennDOT road sign and guide rail with the right front.

The truck then traveled over the guide rail for about 20 feet before coming to rest partially down an embankment with the rear axle resting on top of the guide rail.

Warfield was transported by Auburn ambulance to a parking lot at Cabela's store and then flown by helicopter to the Reading Hospital for treatment of what troopers called moderate injuries.

The DUI charge is pending blood test results, troopers said. The truck had to be towed from the scene.
