Writers' workshop

The Black Diamond Writers' network will sponsor a workshop on writing mystery novels featuring Josh Berk, award winning writer of "The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin." The workshop will be held from 1-3 p.m., Nov. 20 at the Tamaqua Public Library, following the monthly meeting of the BDWN.

The workshop will include exercises on plot, setting, character, dialogue, description and more. Participants will be able to brainstorm outlines for detective stories during the hands on writing practice.

Zion Lewistown

Youth Pastor Mark Shellhamer will offer the sermon at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The youth of the church will be in charge of the service. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at noon.

The Youth Group will meet Nov. 5, at 7 a.m., at the Christ Church Youth Building in McKeansburg.

Primitive Methodist

The Rev. Rodney Hall will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday in Primitive Methodist Church. The service will include a children's sermon. Nursery care is available. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

First Steps, a support group for mothers of young children, meets the first Tuesday of each month, from 6-8 p.m., at the church.

SS. Peter and Paul

All Saints Day will be observed Nov. 1 in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Masses at 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

First Methodist

The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at two worship services this Feed A Friend Sunday: 9:30 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church; and at 10:45 a.m. in First United Methodist Church. Donated food items will be presented to the Tamaqua Salvation Army.

Activities in First UM for next week include: Tuesday, Quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Senior Choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m.

Bible study sessions, based on "The Miracles of Jesus," are held every other week, Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays at 11 a.m. The next sessions will be held Nov. 9 and 10.

The churches have combined to offer an outreach ministry to U.S. troops serving abroad by purchasing "Biblesticks," a digital audio device preloaded with an entire New Testament. For more information call (570) 668-3653.

Recovery help

"Celebrate Recovery" sessions are held every Friday, 7-9 p.m., at New Life Assembly of God Church, 407 Schuylkill Ave. Anyone who needs help recovering is welcome to attend. For more information, contact Phil at (570) 645-4453 or Drew at (484) 629-3025.
