Large quantity of drugs found

A large quantity of drugs were found following a vehicle stop in Monroe County. Pocono Mountain Regional police said the stop was made about 9:01 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, at the intersection of Interstate 380 and SR940 in Pocono Summit.

Police said the stop was made of a vehicle with a suspended plate. A passenger in the vehicle was known to officers due to a recent arrest for possession of heroin. A further investigation was conducted with the use of K-9 Niko. Niko alerted police of a purse that contained over 150 bags of herion. A one-year-old child was also found in the vehicle.

All four occupants were taken into custody and charged and the child was turned over to Children and Youth personnel of Pike County.

Arrested were Ronald Bergamino, 28, of Mt. Pocono; Lauren Riches, 25, of Stroudsburg; Edward Matthews, 28, and Casey Matthews, 27, both of Milford, Bucks County. All were charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-heroin, and other drug related charges.

The Matthews were also charged with endangering the welfare of a child. All were arraigned before a district judge. Bergamino and Riches were committed to the county prison in Snydersville. The Matthews were released on bail.
