Raiders, Panthers, Bears are all double winners

Tamaqua came up with wins in boys soccer and girls volleyball, Panther Valley won golf and girls volleyball matches and Pleasant Valley was victorious in girls tennis and cross country on Tuesday afternoon.

BOYS SOCCER

Saucon Valley-Northwestern

Isaiah Danner scored off of a rebound in double overtime and helped his Tigers to a 2-1 victory over Colonial League foe Saucon Valley.

James Hoover had the other goal for Northwestern. He also took the initial shot that Danner scored off of in overtime.

Tigers' keeper Talon Williams made 11 stops in net to preserve the win.

Salisbury-Northern Lehigh

Salisbury ran away with a 5-1 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Sean Baker had two goals and two assists for the Falcons while teammate Sean Adams added a goal and two assists. The winners also received a goal and assist from Brian Garcia.

Ryan Perkowski scored the Bulldogs' lone goal in the second half. Jimmy Bilger was credited with the assist. Nolehi keeper Justin Molitoris finished the contest with 23 saves.

Southern Lehigh-Palmerton

Southern Lehigh blanked Palmerton for a 4-0 Colonial League win.

The Bombers' keeper Brett Snyder finished with 14 saves.

Weatherly

-Schuylkill Haven

The Hurricanes (4-0, 1-0) scored early and often to remain unbeaten with a 9-0 victory over the Wreckers.

Aaron Pauley scored two goals for Haven and also had two assists. Jordan Russial had a goal and two assists.

Nativity-Jim Thorpe

The Olympians dropped a 5-0 Schuylkill League Division I contest to the Hilltoppers.

Tamaqua-Pottsville

Tamaqua scored three second-half goals to pull away from Pottsville, 3-1.

Gonzalo Cascante, Cesar Picone and Cody Estremera each scored for the Raiders.

Tamaqua's Caleb Leibenguth made four saves in net.

Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain got the best of Jim Thorpe on the courts for a 4-1 win.

Anna Domingo notched the Olympians' lone victory in singles' play.

The Olympians' Ellyn Tomko gave the Blue Eagles' Kali Boyer a run for her money in number one singles stealing nine games, but Boyer was still able to walk off with a 7-5, 6-4 win.

Singles players Kristin Cook and Sarah Elmontacir each won in straight sets, while Lauren Heckelman needed three sets to win.

The doubles team of Steph Cook/Angela Leonardi won their pro-set 8-3. Fellow teams Emily Skutnik/Nicole Reeder, Karli Williams/Erin Dougherty and Melissa Smith/Michelle Ubbens each won in straight sets as well.

The Lady Bombers used great defense a well balanced offense to open the season with a 5-1 win over the Spartans.

Kelsey Eaton, Kylee Turko, Jessica Periera, Karly Cesare and Kaelyn Englert all scored goals for Palmerton.

CROSS COUNTRY

Pleasant Valley-ES North-ES South-Stroudsburg

The Bears came away with a sweep against the Cavaliers and Timberwolves.

The Pleasant Valley girls defeated both East Stroudsburg North and East Stroudsburg South by a score of 15-50. Dana McAllister, Kaitlyn Smith and Stephanie Palmer finished second, third and fourth respectively and helped lead their team to victory. Teammates Sam Klingel (6th), Stacy Wojy (7th) and Brittany Dunay (9th) also finished in the top 10.

Dan Rose helped the Pleasant Valley boys to two victories as well with his third place finish. Alex Larkin and Anthony Ruiz also placed in the top 10.

The Lehighton boys won the school's only meet of the day, as the Indians knocked off the Panthers 25-30.

Daulton Radler led the local boys with a ninth-place finish. He came in with a time of 21:11. Teammates Dave Magyar (13), Jeremy Gornick (17) and Josiah Evans (18) all finished in the top 20.

Emily Oldt had the best finished of any local runner. She placed fourth with a time of 23:39.

Andrew finished with medalist honors thanks to carding a 71 on the day for for the Bombers.

The Crusaders were paced by Matt Long, who finished with a six-over-par 77.

Scott Nevenglosky and Matt Tucker each fired a 78 for Panther Valley and helped lead the Panthers over Tamaqua, 319-364.

Kory Lopata and Mike Hadesty also went low, as they shot an 81 and an 82 respectively.

Tamaqua (2-7) was led by Matt Hadesty and his 84. Steve Christ (87) was the only other Raider under 90.

Brian Danaro was the only Bear to win 3-0 on the day. Teammate Andrew Hansen (2-1) posted the only other victory.

Cole Rex scored the Indians' lone victory with a 2-1 win, while Jacob Hoats had the Tribe's low score (84).

Lauren Mason had three service aces, Ashley Nicola added four kills and Brittany Holland 11 assists for Jim Thorpe.

The Spartan JV's also won by scores of 25-21, 19-25, 25-10.

Schuylkill Haven

-Panther Valley

Panther Valley defeated Schuylkill Haven in three games, 25-9, 25-23, 25-5.

Sarah Branchide led the Panthers (1-1, 1-0) with 16 service points. Teammate Ellen Krajcir chipped in with 15 service points and five aces. Steph Kachelries added seven service points.

Amy Yusella had eight kills, while teammate Deanna Focht had two.

Panther Valley also won the JV contest, 25-8, 25-16.

Tamaqua

-Blue Mountain

In a back-n-forth match, it was Tamaqua who prevailed with a 25-21, 17-25, 25-22, 9-25, 15-13 Schuylkill League victory over Blue Mountain in the end.

Paige Baddick led the Blue Raiders with two service points and 29 assists. Stacey Wallace chipped in with seven service points, nine kills and four blocks.

Sarah Paluck (nine service points, 12 kills), Sarah Lesisko (16 service points, four kills, four aces) and Kelsey Burkett (four service points, five kills, two aces) for the Blue Raiders.

In the JV game, Blue Mountain came out on top with a 25-17, 25-7 victory.
