Schuylkill driver facing charges
A Schuylkill County driver is facing charges including driving under the influence (DUI) following an incident that occurred about 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5, along Rock Road (SR895) in Washignton Township.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Jeffery T. Olt, 50, of Pine Grove, was driving a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta westbound and traveling too fast through a curve. The car drifted across the double yellow line and into the eastbound lane. Olt attempted to bring the car back into the westbound lane but over-corrected. The car then began to turn clockwise and traveled off the road and onto the berm.
Troopers said the car traveled 36 feet along the berm and then struck a speed limit sign with the left rear. The car continued along a slight embankment for another 24 feet before impacting a drainage ditch. After impacting with the drainage ditch the car overturned and came to rest on top of the drainage ditch.
Troopers said Olt then fled the scene in another vehicle which was following him. He was later located at his home and placed into custody for suspicion of drunk driving. He refused to submit to a blood test, troopers said, and will lose his license for a year for the refusal.
He will be charged with DUI, fleeing the scene of an accident and multiple motor vehicle code violations, troopers said.
