DUI arrests

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on several arrests made by officers for driving under the influence (DUI).

On Friday, Sept. 3, about 11:58 p.m. officers stopped a Chevorlet van along Hemlock Road at SR611 in Tobyhanna after observing it being driven erratically. The driver was identified as Lorenzo Najera, 43, of Tobyhanna.

Lorenzo, who did not have a license, was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety test. He was taken to the Pocono Medical Center (PMC), East Stroudsburg, for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.

On Saturday, Sept. 4, about 2:39 a.m. officers conducted a traffic stop along SR196 in Mt. Pocno for multiple vehicle code violations. The driver was identified as Luisa Castro, 51, of Tobyhanna. Castro was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. She was then taken to PMC for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.

About 2:58 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5, officers stopped a vehicle along Evergreen Circle off SR196 in Coolbaugh Township. The driver was identified as Natalie Flores, 19, of Staten Island, N.Y. She was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. Flores was taken to the PMC for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.

At the stop Flores consented to a search of her vehicle. Found was a roach-type cigarette. Found on her was a knotted sandwich bag containinng 10 separate blue ziplock bags which contained white chunky substance suspected to be crack cocaine. Also found in the vehicle was two six-packs of Corona beer.

She is also facing charges of possession of a controlled susbstance, possession of drug paraphernalia, underage drinking and possession of alcohol under the age of 21.

Also on Sunday, about 3:17 a.m., police stopped a vehicle along SR940 at Joe's Kwik Mart for a vehicle code violation. The driver was identified as Sidonio Negrete-Cortes, 35, of Tobyhanna. He was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. He was taken to the PMC for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.

On Monday, Sept. 6, about 8:10 p.m. police stopped a vehicle along Main St., in the parking lof ot the Brookside Inn, in Tobyhanna, for a vehicle code violation. The driver was identified as Danielle Canning, 28, of Tobyhanna. She was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. She was taken to the PMC for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.
