Prothonotary's report

A total of 477 cases were started in August in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the new cases is as follows:

Civil actions, 91; custody complaints, 29; district justice appeals, 4; divorce complaints, 19; ejectments, 3; license appeal, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 30; protection from abuse petitons, 37; quiet title action, 1; judgments, 249; miscellaneous cases, 2; and stipulations/waivers of liens, 11. The office staff also received and processed 65 applications for U.S. Passports.

Behrens' financial report shows $39,835.73 was generated as follows: prothonotary's fees, $31,689.19; interest income, $31.96; PFA Surcharge, courts, $50; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff, $50; custody fees, $1,200; and data processing charges, $6,814.58.

The prothonotary also remitted $4,644.29 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $56 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,905 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
