Two drivers were seriously injured in a crash that occurred about 12:51 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12, in the area of 325 Clarks Valley Road, in Porter Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Dustin Hand, 22, of Williamstown, was westbound in a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu while Barbara Wirt, 52, of Tower City, was eastbound in a 2010 Ford Focus. Troopers said Hand failed to negotiate a curve and crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with Wirt.

Hand was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, while Wirt was flown by LifeLion helicopter to the Hershey Medical Center. Both sustained severe injuries, troopers said. A passenger with Wirt, Jamie Schaeffer, 19, of Tower City, sustained a minor injury and was taken by ambulance to Hershey.

Troopers said Hand will be cited for numerous motor vehicle code violations.
