Schuylkill crashes
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on crashes invesetigated by troopers along Schuylkill County roadways over the past weekend.
A two vehicle crash occurred about 5:23 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, along SR901 in Barry Township. Troopers said Christopher S. Nagy, 37, of Mount Carmel, and Brandon M. Schneck, 26, of Fredericksburg, Lebanon County, were both eastbound. Schneck, operating a 2004 Mack tractor with trailer was climbing a steep grade with the four-way flashers on. Nagy approach the rear of the rig and fell asleep, then woke up just at impact when his 2008 Ford Focus struck the rear of the trailer.
Nagy was injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville. Schneck was not injured. Damages were severe to the Ford. The trailer of the rig had minor damage.
Troopers said Nagy was cited for careless driving.
A two vehicle crash was investigated on Friday, Sept. 10, about 3:55 p.m. along SR61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Ann B. Tihansky, 68, of Pine Grove, was northbound in the left turn lane intending to turn onto Manheim Road, when she turned directly into the path of Jamila M. Rodriguez, 23, of Whitehall, who was southbound. The front of Rodruguez's Ford Escape hit the right rear of Tihansky's 2005 Chevrolet Impala.
Rodriguez sustained a minor injury in the crash and was treated at the scene. Tihansky and a passenger with Rodriguez, Michael D. Lamar, 46, of Whitehall, were not injured. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
Troopers cited Tihansky for vehicle turning left.
Troopers investigated a crash about 9:43 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12, along Molleystown Road, in Tremont Township. Troopers said Elam B. Stoltzfus, 20, of Elizabethville, Dauphin County, was eastbound approaching a sharp right turn while Donald L. Custer, 52, of Newmanstown, Lebanon County, was westbound approaching a sharp left turn. Troopers said Stoltzfus was going too fast for conditions and he failed to negotiate the curve. His 1996 Volkswagen Jetta crossed into the oncoming lane and struck Custer's 2009 Nissan Frontier.
A passenger with Custer, Wild E. Oster, 19, also of Newmanstown, was injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St. No one else was injured. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
Stoltzfus was cited for driving too fast for conditions, troopers said.
