Two cited for incident at bar

A complaint of an unwanted person at the Pine Street Pub in Tamaqua early Sunday morning resulted in citations being issued to two Drums residents.

Officers were dispatched to the bar ar 1:30 a.m. to deal with a male who allegedly refused to leave the premises. At the scene officers observed two females and one male in the street outside of the pub, all engaged in a verbal confrontation.

One of the women, Aimee Bailey, 34, of Catasauqua, told officers the male had pulled a knife on her. As Patrolman Thomas Rodgers attempted to question the male, identified as Bernard Lamont, 38, of Drums, the second female began causing a commotion, yelling and screaming at the officer. Patrolman Thomas Duarte began escorting the woman, identified as Cheryl Sweeney, 42, of Drums, to the other side of the street.

Sweeney, who appeared to be intoxicated, refused to stop yelling, despite being warned that she was going to be arrested. As Duarte took her into custody Sweeney began struggling. She was then cuffed and placed in the back of a police cruiser.

At this point Bailey yelled that Lamont had thrown something under one of the vehicles. Officer Jeffrey Wainwright recovered a black Smith and Wesson pocket knife with a rectractable blade from under the vehicle. Lamont was then taken into custody and given a seat in a second police cruiser.

According to Bailey, there had been a problem in the pub and Lamont was escorted out of the building. While being shown the way to the door Lamont had the knife in his hand. Once outside Lamont began causing a commotion believing that his cell phone was still inside.

The phone was later found in Lamont's sister's van. Bailey did admit the man had never threatened anyone or brandished the knife in a threatening manner.

Lamont and Sweeney were both cited for harassment and public drunkenness.
