Crashes probed
State police at Lehighton reported on several crashes investigated by troopers in recent days in which one driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI).
A one vehicle crash was reported on Sept. 4, no time given, along Dotters Corner Road at the intersection with SR534, in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Jarrod S. Saas, 31, of Palmerton, was driving a 2001 Mercury Sable westbound and failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection. The car continued west on 534 with Saas losing control. The car then traveled northwest off the north shoulder and struck a dirt embankment.
Upon impact the car overturned and continued northwest with the passenger side hitting a tree, where it came to rest on its roof facing northwest.
Saas was taken into custody for DUI and a test revealed he had a .09BAC, troopers said.
A two vehicle crash occurred about 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 4 along SR903 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Christina A. Rosick, 18, of Jim Thorpe, was driving a 2002 Dodge Stratus southbound when she took her eyes off the road to get something inside the vehicle. The car drifted off the road and struck the rear of a 2006 Honda Civic, which was parked along the right berm and driven by Eileen A. Edris, 56, of Bethlehem.
Rosick, Edris and her passenger, Kathy A. Fox, 53, also of Bethlehem, were all not injured. Troopers cited Rosick for careless driving.
A driver is facing charges following a crash that occurred about 5 a.m .on Sept. 6 along SR903 at the intersection with Smith Road, in Penn Forest Township.
Troopers said Peter A. Knepper II, 21, of Tamaqua, was driving a 1999 Ford Mustang southbound and approaching the intersection with he lost control for unknown reasons. The car went onto the east berm and struck a guide rail with its front end. The car came to rest at the point of impact. Troopers said the guide rail traveled through the engine compartment to the firewall of the car with the end partially in the occupants compartment of the car.
Troopers said Knepper fled the scene prior to their arrival. He was charged with driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed, troopers said.
A two vehicle crash was probed about 3:48 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, along SR248 in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Mark Valentine, 55, of Roseland, N.J., was eastbound in a 2009 Honda Goldwing motorcycle and slowed to make a left turn into a parking lot with his turn signal on when his bike was struck in the rear by a 2003 Dodge Durango operated by Jennifer Pettit-Szoke, 34, of Jim Thorpe.
No one was injured with damages minor to the Dodge. The bike sustained moderate damage and had to be towed. Troopers noted Valentine was not wearing a helmet.
Troopers said a crash occurred about 11:34 p.m. on Saturday along SR248 in Lower Towamensing Township invovling a 1996 Nissan Sentra operated by Anthony M Amill, 17, of Lehighton, and passengers Jon L. Eremus 16, and Kody D. Snyder, 16, both of Lehighton. However, details of the crash were not provided. No one was injured.
Troopers did note that Amill was cited for required position and method of turning.
