Carbon bank victim of theft

A Carbon County branch bank was the victim of a theft by deception/bad check incident.

State police at Lehighton said a person entered the Jim Thorpe National Bank branch at 1397 SR903 in Penn Forest Township, on Sept. 9 and opened a business account and made a deposit of more than $8,000 by check. The suspect then proceeded to withdraw about $7,800 from the account. Later the bank learned that the check deposited in the new account was on a closed account making the deposit fraudulent in nature.

The investigation into the incident is continuing, troopers said
