The playoff picture became clear in the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission's Winter Basketball League.
Ryan's Oil & Heating topped R.R. Frey Services in a battle for the top seed, while Matika's Lawn Care/Blazosky Funeral Home scored a huge victory over Cuz-N-Joe's Place to secure a playoff berth.
The Matika's win also knocked out Joe's Place and University Legendz from postseason contention.
Ryan's Oil & Heating-R.R. Frey Services
In a battle of league unbeatens, Ryan's Oil & Heating clinched the top overall seed for the playoffs with a 65-64 overtime victory over R.R. Frey Services.
Tied at 52 at the end of regulation, R.R. Frey Services scored the first six points of overtime, but Ryan's Oil & Heating rallied by scoring the next seven to pull ahead.
Jon Scheuer scored 20 points to lead Ryan's Oil & Heating, while Shawn Tray added 17. Jeff Krushinsky and Kieran Conway tacked on 11 and 10 points respecitvely.
For R.R. Frey Services, Jim Barron scored a game-high 21 points, followed by Dave Wilson (16 points) and Cory Houser (14 points).
Joe's Place-University Legendz
Trailing by 32-30 at halftime, Joe's Place started the second half on a 10-0 run en route to a 64-60 victory over University Legendz.
Tom Kresge scored a game-high 26 points to lead Joe's Place, while Travis Fink netted 11.
University Legendz, which combined for 16 three-pointers, was led by JR Graver's six treys for 18 points. Frank Gabiotti also drained five long balls and added 17 points in the loss.
Sokol Club-Gear Graphic & Sign
Sokol Club blitzed out to a 50-21 halftime lead and never looked back as they routed Gear Graphic & Sign by a final score of 80-50.
Brad O'Donnell's 21 points and five three-pointers paced Sokol Club. Chris Decker (19 points) and John Demyanovich (13 points) also scored double-figures.
For Gear Graphic & Sign, Travis Williams and Bob Kreiser scored 17 and 15 points respectively.
Matika's Lawn Care/Blazosky Funeral Home-Cuz-N-Joe's Place
Matika's Lawn Care punched its ticket into the playoffs with a 67-57 victory over Cuz-N-Joe's Place. The Matika's win knocked Joe's Place and University Legendz out of postseason contention.
Brad Yuricheck tallied 14 points to lead Matiak's Lawn Care/Blazosky Funeral Home, while Bejtullah Mehmeti added 12 and Steve Strauss knocked down 10.
Cuz-N-Joe's Place was led by Jon Veet's 19 points. Curt Roberts added 14 and Damian Fritz chipped in with 12.
