50th reunion

The Pleasant Valley High School Class of 1961 is looking for classmates in order to formulate a 50-year class reunion.

Lions blood drive

The Western Pocono Lions Club blood drive held Thursday, March 31, netted 35 units of blood. The club thanks all who donated and encourages residents to give at other blood drives.

PVEN Board

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network board of directors will meet at 9 a.m., Thursday, April 7, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.

UMC blood drive

McMichaels UMC will host a blood drive from 8-10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 9. Call (570) 629-1136 to register. Breakfast, open to all, will be served at the same time.

Vision loss forum

A free open forum on vision loss will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 9, in the Eastern Monroe Public Library. Refreshments will be served.

The Chestnuthill PTO will meet Tuesday, April 12. For more information, call the school.

Library Week

National Library Week is being celebrated from April 10-16. It is a good time to check out all the services the Western Pocono Community Library offers.

Food drive

Effort UMC Supplemental Food Resource Center will be hosting a food drive at Kinsley's ShopRite in Brodheadsville, from 2-6 p.m., Thursday, April 7, and again April 14.

This past Saturday, the SFRC served 40 families.

Chem-Free Committee

The Pleasant Valley Chem-Free Graduation Committee will meet at 6 p.m., April 12, at Sen. Pat Browne's office at the intersection of Old Route 115 and Route 209, across from the Chestnuthill Diner.

Garden of Giving

The third annual planting season is fast approaching for The Garden of Giving, located in McMichaels, off Route 715.

Training sessions are being scheduled for volunteers 12 and older.

Planting dates are April 30 and May 1 for the spring crops and May 21 and May 22 for the summer crops.

For information about the volunteer training, to be held at Northampton Community College in Tannersville, call the Garden of Giving at (570) 402-1282.

PA Clean-Up Day

It is the Great PA Clean-Up Day on Saturday, April 16.

For those not involved in other groups, the West End Park & Open Space Commission extends the invitation to be a part of the cleanup at the West End Regional Park.

Participants are asked to meet at 8 a.m. at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville and to call or email Bernie Kozen, executive director, West End Park & Open Space Commission at (570) 992-9733 (office) or at (570) 807-5561 (cell), or at bkozen@weposc.org.

Rent rebate help

The Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, where the Monroe County Seniors meet, will have rent rebate help available for the seniors from 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, April 13.

Also on that date, free blood pressure checks will be done by Allen Lear Home.
