Tigers win pair on diamond
Northwestern picked up wins in both baseball and softball over the weekend, while Marian managed a split against Nativity.
BASEBALL
Jim Thorpe-N'western
Northwestern (2-2) used a late inning surge to score a 8-2 non-league win over visiting Jim Thorpe (0-3).
After trailing 2-0 after four innings, Ty Cunningham delivered what was the game-winning hit with a three-run homer in the fifth. Cunningham ended up with a single, home run, five RBI and also scored a run.
NW's Payton Bachman led all hitters going 3-for-4 with three singles, two runs scored, a RBI and a stolen base.
The Olympians' Pat Duvigneaud collected two singles, scored a run and drove in another.

Nativity-Marian
The Colts finally got a chance to open their season, but dropped a 6-0 decision to Nativity.
Taylor Luckenbill had a solo home run in the sixth inning and added a single with two RBI for the Hilltoppers. Teammate Sean Hoban added a double with a RBI.
For Marian, Cory Ryba had two singles, while JT Keer had the other base hit.

Marian captured its Schuylkill League Division III opener with a 8-2 win over Nativity.
Alexa Nemeth recorded a single, double, two runs scored and a RBI for the Fillies. Gabby Green added a single, double and two RBIs.
Abbey Hill (two singles, RBI) and Nina Curran (two singles, run scored, RBI) also aided the Marian (2-0, 1-0) effort.
The Fillies' Kayla Knight struckout 12 and walked three in picking up the win.
The Golden Girls' Emily Grube finished with two singles and a run scored.

After another slow start, Northwestern recovered to record two solid innings and posted a 5-3 non-conference victory over East Stroudsburg South (1-2).
Winning pitcher Tori Papp paced the Tigers (2-2) going 3-for-4 with three singles, a run scored and a RBI.
Brooke Heller and Blaise Barron both finished with two singles, a run scored and a RBI, while Katie Williams chipped in with two singles and a run scored.
