Tamaqua, NL get wins on diamond

Tamaqua and Northern Lehigh both picked up baseball and softball wins on the local scholastic sports scene on Wednesday.

BASEBALL

Pleasant Vy.-ES North

Pleasant Valley exploded for 10 runs in the first inning en route to a 20-9 Mountain Valley Conference victory over East Stroudsburg North.

The Bears (7-3, 5-1) banged out 17 hits, seven of them for extra bases.

Travis Raseley had three hits, two of them doubles, scored four runs and knocked in one while Drew Borger had a pair of hits, one a homer, drove in three and scored twice.

Derrik Walling added three hits, one a double, three runs and an RBI with John Guadagna contributing a single, double, two runs and four RBI. Chris Kershner finished with two hits and knocked in four while Rob Getz collected three hits, one a double, scored a run and knocked in one.

The winners also received a hit and three runs from Dan Hrbek while Jimmy Beidleman had a double, drove in three and scored twice.

Jake Kern used both his arm and his bat to help aide in Northern Lehigh's 7-0 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

Kern tossed a complete game shutout win from the mound, while the Bulldog helped himself out early in the batter's box with a solo homerun in the first inning.

Zach Polansky paced the Bulldogs (9-2, 8-1) with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI, while Kyle Schomp added a single and a triple.

Marian-Tri-Valley

Marian and Tri-Valley ended up splitting a doubleheader.

The Colts used the strength of a nine-run fifth-inning to post a 13-7 Schuylkill League Division II-III win over the Bulldogs in Game One.

The Bulldogs returned the favor in the nightcap by handing the Colts a 6-3 setback in a non-league.

Zach Motil led the Colts in game one with a single, double, three run scored and two RBI. Mark Stawick followed with a single, double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Corey Ryba (two singles, two run scored, two RBI) and JT Kerr (two singles, run scored) also played well.

In Game two, it was the Colts' Justin Bilka, who had the big bat with two singles, a run scored and a RBI. Teammate Dylan Latham chipped in with a single and a double.

Marian is to overall and 5-1 in the SL.

Trevor Reinhardt fired a two-hit shutout to lead Tamaqua to a 10-0 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Reinhardt walked four, struck out three and received plenty of support from his offense.

Carl Wittig had three hits, one a double, and knocked in four runs for the Blue Raiders (7-5; 4-4), who banged out 14 hits.

Ryan Palsgrove added two hits, two runs and an RBI while Matt Roberts had two hits and two runs. Mike Streisel contributed two hits, a run and knocked in a pair with Mike Toth collecting a single, double and RBI.

Emily Zancofsky added two hits, one a two-run single, and Krissy Bates chipped in with two hits and an RBI. Sotak helped her cause with a triple and run scored while Jordan Nowacki crossed homw twice.

After surrendering a lead to Marian in the first inning, Tri-Valley recovered to take it back in the third and never relinquished it to score a 9-3 Schuylkill League Division cross-over win.

Nina Curran paced the Fillies with two singles and two RBIs, while Shannon Skotek added two singles and a run scored.

Ashley Donlin (two singles) also finished as a multiple hitter for the Fillies (7-2, 4-2).

Seven different players scored goals as Northwestern cruised to an 8-0 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.

Katie Hughes led the Tigers (10-2, 8-2) with two goals. Cassy Yost and Trista Cunningham both added a goal and an assist.

The winners, who outshot the Roughies 19-0 and held a 5-0 halftime lead, also received goals from Sara Jones, Meghan Weber, Abby Schneck and Katie Hallingstad.

Wilson-Lehighton

Carlye Messman's hat-trick helped spark Wilson to a 4-1 non-conference win over Lehighton.

Jordyn Homyak had the Indians' lone goal.

The Indians' keeper Kayla Troutman finished with 15 saves.
