Marian golfers remain perfect

Marian stayed perfect on the young golf season, while Tamaqua and Weatherly came up on the short end in scholastic action on Tuesday.

All four Colts ended up with scores under 90 in a 329-354 win over Williams Valley. Eric Mason led the way with a 79. Mike Gottstein (82), Mark Postupack (82) and Josh Green (86) rounded out the scoring.

Marian is now 3-0 on the year.

Pine Grove-Tamaqua

Pine Grove's Nevin Brosius shot a 79 and led the Cardinals to a 333-381 golf victory over Tamaqua.

All four scorers for Pine Grove shot below a 87.

Mike Weinert was the lone Blue Raider to shoot under 90, as he finished with an 85. Teammate Travis Miller was close behind with a 91.

Tamaqua falls to 1-3 (1-3) on the year.

Minersville had three golfers shoot below an 85 and went on to beat Weatherly, 346-412.

The Miners were led by Nick Mione and his 76. Teammates Dan Myers (83) and Austin Moffat (84) each shot in the mid-80s as well.

Weatherly's Rob Adams led the team with a 90. Josh Reiner added a 98.

GIRLS TENNIS

Blue Mtn.-Tamaqua

Blue Mountain blanked Tamaqua, winning 5-0 on the road.

Carly Fenstermacher was the only Lady Raider singles' player to push her match to three sets. She won the second set 6-1 before losing 6-2 in the third set.

The local doubles team of Taylor Urban and Emily Hansler also managed to go three sets. They won the first set 6-4 prior to dropping the next two.
