Dessert and show
Western Pocono Lioness Club enjoyed a mini fashion show and ice cream social, with Sherri Gallagher doing the fashion show moderation.
The show was a review of the fall luncheon and fashion show the Lioness will have in September.
Special guest was Western Pocono Lions Club President Charles Rush and his wife, Joanne.
Rush guided the Lioness through documentation requirements they must follow to keep records up to date.
As a member of the board as well as a volunteer for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network, he underscored the need for new children's and ladies' underwear for PVEN, any size.
Lioness are also asked to bring a nonperishable food item for one of the local food pantries; and/or a clean used or new t-shirt for the African Mission project.
Golden anniversary
The Pleasant Valley High School Class of 1961 celebrated its 50th anniversary of graduation at the high school in Brodheadsville Saturday, with a tour of the school, as well as a display and video presentation of the past 50 years.
Among the graduates attending were those from Florida, York, Lebanon, N.J. and the local area.
Special guest was Grace Arnold, a former Chestnuthill graduate and class president, whose husband, the late Charles Arnold was both a teacher at Chestnuthill and an administrator for the district, after Pleasant Valley High School came to be.
Several plans organizers had anticipated were curtailed due to Hurricane Irene.
PVEN board
The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network board of directors will meet at 9 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 1, at Zion United Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville.
Rotary Club
The West End Rotary will meet will at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 1 at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.
PV Band Parents
The first fall meeting of the Pleasant Valley Band Parents is set for 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 1 at the high school in Brodheadsville.
Touch of Home
A regular meeting of Operation: Touch of Home is scheduled for 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the American Legion Post in Gilbert.

PIC to meet
Pride in Chestnuthill (PIC) will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8 at the Chestnuthill Municipal Building in Brodheadsville.
New participants are always welcome.
The group will be judging the sixth annual Chestnuthill Township Beautification Award, open to any business in the township.
Businesses are judged not only on cleanliness and landscaping, but also on seasonal flower plantings. The award will be presented to the winner at the November Chestnuthill Township supervisors meeting.

Award-winning songwriter and nationally recognized speaker on grief and loss, Alan Pedersen, will play/speak at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 29.
The public is invited to share an evening of music, hope and healing at this free concert event.
