Celebrate the Christmas Season with the Live Nativity. The Live Nativity participants will participate in the parade on Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. on Broadway. Then they will reenact the first nativity at Acorn Court behind Chatelaine's jewelry, 81 Broadway, throughout the night. Please bring your family and join them for this Christmas tradition.

Following the parade, the tree lighting ceremony will take place in the Josiah White Park at 6 p.m.

The Jim Thorpe Lioness Club will be sponsoring a Mitten Tree in conjunction with this weekend's events. The club will be collecting mittens, gloves, hats and scarves to be distributed to the community food banks and Head Start. All donations will be greatly appreciated.

An indoor nativity display will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, on Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4, from noon to 5 p.m. The display will be held in the auditorium of the church and there is a step chair available for those wishing to use it.

Smoke detectors

The Jim Thorpe Fire Department still has smoke detectors available to residents of the community. Fire Chief Bill Diehm suggests that residents take advantage of these free detectors for their homes. No commercial properties please.

Contact Chief Diehm at (570) 325-3890 for more information about how to receive one of these items.
