Western Pocono Lions Club

Club President Charles Rush reminds members that they were needed for ringing the Salvation Army bells at Kinsley's ShopRite in Brodheadsville and announced that the next two club meetings would take place at Olde Mill Pizza and Restaurant in Sciota rather than at Ye Olde Saylors Inn, due to that entity being closed for the two months.

Rotary speakers

The West End Rotary Club will host the following speakers for Dec. 15 and Dec. 22. They are, respectively, Patricia Edoard of Mr. Edoard's Bistro, speaking about Creole cooking, and Hope Smith, sharing information about the West End Alliance.

West End Rotary meets at 7:30 a.m. every Thursday (except holidays) at the library, located at 2000 Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville, across Route 209 from Pleasant Valley High School.

Concerts offered

Voices of Christmas, a Christmas Cantata under the direction of Dan Smale, will be presented at three area churches this weekend. The first concert is at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16 at St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown. The concert on Saturday, Dec. 17 at Effort United Methodist Church will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sunday's concert will take place at 4 p.m., Dec. 18, at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Brodheadsville.

In other years the concerts have had standing room only at some of the venues.

Choir program

Zion Lutheran Church's choir will present a special program during the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Dec. 18. That will be followed by the second annual Christmas tea.

The holiday social is being sponsored by Arlene Conklin, Lynda Costenbader and Ann Gould.

Lioness meet

The Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert. The club will hold its holiday party which will include a gift exchange.

PV Board meets

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet Thursday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m., at the district office in Brodheadsville.

PVEN needs

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network's Community Service Center, which aids so many folks in the West End, needs help. On PVEN's wish list for clothing are: girls and boys white school socks; girls and boys clothing, all sizes; and boys and girls winter jackets, all sizes.

Items may be dropped off Tuesday mornings when the center is open or at other times by arrangement.
