The following actions were taken recently in Schuylkill County:
Claim defaults
Uni-Mart LIquidation Trust has filed a civil action against Mahanoy City Food Mart, LLC, and Javed Akhtar alleging default in lease agreement on the Uni-Mart food store in Mahanoy City, for fuel and trademark and seeks damages. It is asking the court to enter a judgement for $3,095,582.82 for lease, $120,150 for fuels and $89.600 for trademark defaults. Uni Mart owned and operated convenient stores in Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio with its state headquarters located in State College. It had 283 stores in the three states and is now in bankruptcy and conducting liquidation activities. It alleges Akhtar entered into the lease agreement for the Mahanoy City store.
Lifts bench warrant
Steven Peer Rhoades, 42, of Enola, had to be brought into court on a bench warrant after he failed to keep a court date. After a hearing, Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin lifted the warrant and fixed bail at $2,500 cash and ordered Rhoades to abide by all standard conditions of bail and notify Clerk of Courts office and the district attorney's office of any change of address. Rhoades faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs which were brought by Patrolman Brian Reno, Pottsville Police in June 2009.
Treasurer's report
Treasurer Jacqueline McGovern released the county's financial report for November which showed a beginning balance of all accounts at $50,684,11 and an end of the month balance of $46.023,839.58. The deposits for all the funds totaled $7,647,592.19 and expenditures of $12,308,196.72. The general fund had a beginning of the month balance of $19.390,625.26, deposits of $1,202,995.18, expenditures of $3,516,119.21 leaving a balance at the end of the month at $17,077,501.33. During the month $234,954.33 was collected in real estate taxes, $13,194.60 for the funded debt and $12,199.76 in per capita tax. The treasurer's office received revenues of $1,610 for small game of chance licenses, $315 for bingo licenses, $209 for hunting licenses, $9 for fishing licenses, $119.90 for dog license, $45,829,52 from the eight magisterial district justice offices for costs and fines collected, $62,098.85 on a tax placed on land phones, $647.73 in earnings from 9-1-1 Department and $489,26 in hotel tax commissions.
Zoning permits
The Schuylkill County Zoning Office issued only 25 zoning permits and the estimated cost of proposed construction is $314,647, the lowest in the office's history. LIfting permits were:
David and Debra Hine, East Brunswick Township, for construction of a two car garage at estimated cost of $20,000; Todd Adams, East Brunswick Township, pole building for $8,000; Michael Zimmerman, Eldred Township, grain and barn storage building, $50,000; Nicholas Hutzel, Cass Township, construction of a manufactured home, $17,000; Keith Seigfried, Pine Grove, log home, $30,000; Bela W. Szilagyi, Reilly Township, carport, $3,000; Charles and Elizabeth Dries, Palo Ato, installing pre-built storage shed, $2,000; Donald and Virginia Zerbe, Eldred Township, pole building for $12,670; Bruce T. Hart, Frackville, porch with roof, $15,900; Bernard Thompson, Pine Grove, pole building for $25,000; Denise and David Poda, Washington Township, mobile home for $45,600 and Lebanon Valley Home, Washington Township, mobile home for $29,900.
Divorces granted
Theresa A. Brennan, Rear 25 South Kennedy Drive, McAdoo, was granted a divorce from Thomas D. Brennan, 113 West Blaine Street, McAdoo. They were married August 19, 1968.
Scott Soley was granted a divorce from Natalie Soley, both of 1844 West Penn Pike, New Ringgold. They were married June 24, 2006.
Lisa Ann Weiss, Sacramento Village, Hubley Township, was granted a divorce from Christopher Mark Weiss, Edwardsville. They were married September 27, 2008.
Michael John Schaeffer was granted a divorce from Brenda Jean Schaeffer, both of Pine Grove. They were married November 16, 1991.
Joyce Wetzel was granted a divorce from Dale Wetzel, both of Tremont. They were married February 20, 1982.
