Christmas trees

The Borough of Tamaqua's Street Department will be collecting discarded Christmas trees throughout January.

Residents are to place their trees curbside on their regular trash collection days.

Trees will be collected as time and weather permit.

Trees must be free of all tinsel and decorations. Residents are also asked to remove any plastic bags from the trees.

Trees may also be dropped off behind the Tamaqua Borough Garage, at 421 rear E. Broad St.

No trees will be collected after Jan. 31.

SS. Peter and Paul

First Friday, Fatima Saturday and Rosary Sunday will be observed next week in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

First Friday communion calls will be made on Thursday for residents of Hometown and Coaldale. All others will begin Friday at 9 a.m. First Friday confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m.

A recitation of the Rosary and devotions will be held Fatima Saturday, prior to the 8 a.m. Mass.

Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will meet before the 8 a.m. Mass Sunday for a Recitation of the Rosary on Jan. 1. The group will attend Mass and receive Holy Communion as a group.

The Holy Name Society will meet Jan. 8, at 8 p.m. The meeting will be preceded by a Mass at 7:30 p.m.

Help will be needed on Jan. 9 to undecorate the church.

Anyone willing to help may meet at the church at 6 p.m.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.

Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, Prayer time at 8:30 a.m. and Tamaqua Youth Ministry will meet at 6:30 p.m.

Calvary UM

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Wednesday prayer and praise services are held at 7 p.m. in the church.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at a joint New Year's Day service at 10 a.m. in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include a children's sermon.
