Marian, Northern Lehigh girls gain wins

The Marian and Northern Lehigh girls both posted wins in basketball action on Thursday.

Also gaining a victory was the Panther Valley wrestling squad, who defeated Mahanoy Area.

Mahanoy A.-Marian

Marian blanked Mahanoy Area, 19-0, in the first quarter en route to a 46-18 Schuylkill League Division 3 win.

Gillian Ferko scored a game-high 17 points for the Fillies while Danielle Tristani added 10.

Aimee Oertner tallied a game-high 18 points to help lead Northern Lehigh to a 52-23 Colonial League win over Northwestern.

The Bulldogs' Tina Bastardi added 14 points while Sonya Josephson contributed 12.

For the Tigers, Sara Jones had a team-high 12 points.

Northwestern won the JV game, 35-21.

Pottsville remained undefeated in Schuylkill League play by cruising to a 75-36 Division I win over Jim Thorpe.

Nick Schlitzer paced the Tide with 27 points. Bobby Schappel added 15 and Brandon Bridy finished with 14.

Dean DiBonifazio tallied a team-high 12 points for the Olympians (5-14; 1-8).

In the JV game, Pottsville posted a 58-27 victory.
