Crashes probed
State police at Lehighton reported on three crashes investigated by troopers, two on Saturday, Feb. 5.
A two vehicle crash occurred about 6:40 a.m. along SR248 in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Rachel L. Bowman, 20, of Palmerton, was driving a 1990 Jeep Cherokee eastbound and traveling too fast for conditions when she attempted to pass a 2007 Jeep Liberty driven by Ruth A. Everett, 49, of Lehighton.
Bowman lost control of her vehicle and traveled into the median. She over-corrected her steering, troopers said, and her vehicle began to slid on the icy-covered roadway. The Cherokee then traveled into the path of the Liberty with both vehicles then traveling off the road and into a embankment. The Liberty overturned upon impact with the embankment.
No one was injured. Troopers cited Bowman for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.
The second crash on Saturday occurred about 10:55 a.m. along SR903 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Shawn M. Reid, 38, of Norwood, Delaware County, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado northhbound when he hit a patch of slush causing him to lose control of the truck. The truck crossed the southbound lane and then struck a snow bank which caused it to roll over.
Reid and two passengers, Brianna N. Reid, 12, and Shawn M. Reid Jr., 10, both of Norwood, were all not injured. Troopers cited Reid for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.
Troopers probed a hit and run crash that was reported about 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 along Hideaway Road, in Polk Township, Monroe County.
Troopers said Rachel A. Cloutier, 32, of Effort, was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer when she lost control when she said she attempted to avoid hitting a deer. The vehicle traveled northeast off the road and hit the guard rail, traffic control sign and then some trees.
Troopers said Cloutier was not at the scene when they arrived and did not contact them until the next day.
She was charged with driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.
