Man charged with bomb incident
A Monroe County man has been charged with manufacturing a facsimile weapon of mass destruction.
Pocono Mountain Regional police said they obtained an arrest warrant for Jacob Thompson, 30, of Long Pond, following an incident that occurred on Jan. 5.
On that date officers responded to a woman in distress call at the cellular phone tower access road in Tunkhannock Township. While on scene officers found a device that appeared to be an improvised explosive. The device was a gas can, wired to an oil can, wired to an ammunition can with various other wires attached.
Police secured the area and advised the county emergency management office. A bomb team from Pike County and the state police were dispatched. The bomb was dismantled with the use of a bomb robot. The bomb was then determined to be a facsimile.
Through various investigations into Thompson, police were able to determine that he had manufactured the device.
Thompson was arrested and is currently being held in the county prison in Snydersville on charges stemming from this incident and other charges.
