Big project
On May 14, the family and friends of Zion Lutheran, with help from other congregations, will gather to make up 20,000 or more food packets for Kids Against Hunger. Needed are 150 volunteers to do the work in several hours,
Nancy Joy Koch, who is shepherding this project, reports that the congregation will need to raise $5,600 by March 31 in order to carry it out. Several fund-raisers are planned.
The boxes of food packets will be going to local food pantries and to Haiti through the Lazarus project
It will be a multigenerational type of assembly line for the entire family, reports Koch, explaining that Richard Proudfit, the founder of Kids Against Hunger, scientifically developed the process in an effort to stamp out world hunger. Each prepared food packet will feed six adults or 12 children one meal once the contents have been added to water that has been boiled 20 minutes.
