Fillies, Bombers, Bulldogs get wins Jim Thorpe's Robinson tops 1,000-point mark in loss to Pine Grove

Marian, Palmerton and Northern Lehigh all continued their winning ways in girls basketball action on Tuesday night, while Jim Thorpe's Celeste Robinson topped the 1,000-point mark in her career.

The Palmerton boys also picked up a victory.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Shenandoah-Marian

Marian outscored Shenandoah in every quarter en route to a 49-21 Schuylkill League victory.

Kaysi McLaughlin was the the Fillies' leading scorer on the night as she finished with a game-high 17 points on four three-pointers. Danielle Tristani and Gillian Ferko added nine and eight points respectively.

Marian improves to 18-2 overall and 10-2 in the league. The Fillies will meet Pottsville Nativity on Friday in a game that should decide the Schuylkill League Division 3 title.

The Bulldogs (18-2, 12-2) got big games from their 1-2 punch of Sonya Josephson and Aimee Oertner as they scored 16 and 13 points respectively.

Pen Argyl-Palmerton

Palmeton edged out a one-point victory over Pen Argyl, winning 39-38 in Colonial League action.

Senior Katie Reimer's 12 points were good enough to lead the Bombers (16-3, 13-2) to victory. Fellow senior Casey Rinfret added nine, while Kristen Romano chipped in eight.

Pocono Mountain East edged Pleasant Valley, 37-35, in Mountain Valley Conference action.

The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Bears (15-5, 9-2).

Kasey Meckes and Kelecia Harris led the way for Pleasant Valley with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Ally Roth and Tristin Nicks had 10 points each for Pocono Mountain East (8-9, 5-5).

Pocono Mountain West (12-9, 9-2) scored at least 16 points in each of the first three quarters and went on to defeat MVC-foe Lehighton, 57-33

The Indians' Jordyn Homyak once again led the team in scoring with a game-high 22 points.

The Lady Panthers had two players in double figures. Ramona Benitez had 20 points, while Katie Schickling added 14.

Robinson. a junior, scored 17 points to top the 1,000-point mark, but the Cardinals moved a game ahead of the Olympians for second place in Schuylkill League Division I play and a wild card berth with a 56-44 victory.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Palmerton-Pen Argyl

Ben Andrews drained a three-pointer with less than 15 seconds to go and then came up with a steal to help Palmerton run out the clock and grab a 44-43 Colonial League win over the Pen Argyl.

Cody Geist scored 10 of his 12 points in the final period to help the Bombers (8-12, 5-9) overcome a five-point deficit and get the win.

Kyle Muller had 17 points for the Green Knights.

Pine Grove-Panther Valley

Panther Valley was eliminated from District 11 playoff contention with a 59-31 Schuylkill League loss to Pine Grove.

The Panthers (9-12, 4-7) played powerful Pine Grove tough early and trailed by just three points at halftime. But Brady Burke led a second surge that allowed the Cardinals to pull away for the victory.

Burke led Pine Grove (17-3, 9-2) with 20 points.

Zach Stanko and Nate Mathewson led Panther Valley with 13 and 10 points respectively.

Pleasant Valley led Pocono Mountain East by ten points with three minutes to go, but let the game slip away down the stretch and dropped a 60-55 Mountain Valley Conference decision.

Mike Sharpe paced the Bears (11-9, 6-5) with a game-high 19 points. Teammate Nick Stanovick added nine on three triples.

The Cardinals were led by Lamont Tillery's 15 points.

The Panthers jumped out to a 32-6 first-quarter lead and never looked back as they ran away from Lehighton, 58-26, in Mountain Valley Conference play.

Point guard DJ Rossino led the Indians with 11 points. No other Lehighton player scored more than three points.

Michael Collins paced West with 12 points on four three-pointers.

With the loss, Lehighton ends its season with a 1-21 overall record and an 0-12 league mark.

Moravian Academy took control early and rolled to a 66-23 non-league win over Weatherly.

The Lions, who jumped out to a 21-3 lead after one quarter, had a trio of players in double figures led by Adam Blair's 15 points.

For Weatherly (2-17), Josh Reiner led the way with six points.

Moravian won the JV game, 43-41. Charlie Wallish led Weatherly with 13 points.

The Blue Raiders (16-4) were led by Trevor Skripko's 13 points. Bo Rottet added 10.

For the Colts, Josh Lex had 15 points while Luke Stawick added 14 points.

Tamaqua-Panther Vy.

Tamaqua defeated Panther Valley, 75-33.

For the Blue Raiders (15-4), Jake Kunkel exploded for a season-high 26 points, including five treys. Chris Hartung and Joey Marcin added 17 and 11 points respectively.

For the Panthers, Szczecina had 14 points.

8TH GRADE

Pleasant Vy.-Nazareth

Pleasant Valley knocked off Nazareth, 43-36.

Brian Joseph led the Bears (15-0) with 14 points. Elijah Gonzalez and Bryan Sharpe each added nine.

Tamqua-Panther Valley

Tamaqua rolled to a 48-5 victory over Panther Valley.

The Raiders were led by Zach Wargula with 10 points and Ernie Shilko with eight points.

Keo scored all 5 of the Panther points.
