Fillies, Lady Bombers post double-digit wins

The Marian and Palmerton girls continued their winning ways to highlight Monday's scholastic sports action.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Marian-Shenandoah

Marian turned in another strong defensive performance to beat Shenandoah, 44-28, in Schuylkill League action.

The Fillies (8-0, 3-0) have held six straight opponents to 30 points or less.

Marian was led by Danielle Tristani and Gillian Ferko, who scored 14 and 10 points respectively. Corrine Markiewicz chipped in with eight.

Shenandoah took the JV contest, 37-32.

Palmerton

The Lady Bombers (6-2, 2-1) went on a 23-2 run in the second quarter, staked to a 28-point halftime lead and buried Stroudsburg in a non-league contest, 66-37.

Palmerton's Kelsey Hay scored all 15 of her points in the first half, while Casey Rinfret matched her teammate with 15.

Palmerton also held on to win the JV game by a score of 38-34. The locals received 16 points from Morgan Mummey.

Pottsville pulled away from the Panther Valley in the third quarter and went on to post a 46-36 Schuylkill League victory.

The Lady Panthers (2-4, 0-2) went 0-for-12 from the field in the third quarter and scored just three points as the Tide turned a narrow halftime lead into a 14-point advantage.

MaryJane Thomas led the Panthers with nine points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Weatherly-MMI Prep

MMI Prep used a 13-3 second-quarter run and some great defense to knock off Weatherly, 30-19 in non-league play.

Fran Swankoski led MMI with a game-high 17 points. He was the only player to score double-figures on the night.

Weatherly was paced by Kyle Harris' six points. The Wreckers failed to score more than seven points in any quarter.

Weatherly did manage to win the JV game, 41-14.
