The schedule of January meetings of committees of the Lansford Borough Council is as follows:

Thursday, Jan. 6 - Grants Committee, 6:30 p.m.

Monday, Jan. 10 - Facility Planning Committee (borough office, 26 E. Patterson St.), 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 19 - Borough Council, 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 25 - Municipal Administration (borough office, 26 E. Patterson St.), 6 p.m.

Thursday, Jan. 27 - Parks & Recreation Committee, 6:30 p.m.; and Community Development, Planning, Zoning & Ordinance Committee, 7:15 p.m.

Monday, Jan. 31 - Public Safety Committee, 6:30 p.m.; and Public Works Committee, 7:30 p.m.

All of the meetings will be held in the Lansford Community Center, 1 W. Ridge St., unless otherwise noted.

Parish ministry

A new endeavor of parish ministry, HOPE (Helping Older Parishioners Earnestly), is being organized at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford. Volunteers are needed to work in pairs to assist parishioners in need.

Scholarships

The St. Mary Magdalene Society Junior Branch No. 46 of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association is once again sponsoring its scholarship program for 2011.

They are available in three categories: elementary grades 1-4, elementary grades 5-8, and high school.

Applications are available to members of the branch and must be postmarked before March 1.
