Owe back taxes

Tamaqua Area School District filed petitions to court to enter liens against properties on which back school taxes are owed.

The school district claims Todd Snyder, as trustee for Northside Legal Land Trust, 492 Blue Mountain Drive, New Ringgold, owes $1,434.40 in real estate tax on property at 25 Lafayette St., Tamaqua; Robert Steward and Linda Courtney owe $ 912.72 on their property at 212 Hope Drive, West Penn Township; All About Homes, LLC, as trustee of Control Legal Land Trust, 429 Blue Mountain Drive, New Ringgold, owes $741.80 on property at 112 W. Broad St., Tamaqua; Mahanoy Land Trust, Paulette B. Gigle, trustee, 429 Blue Mountain Road, New Ringgold, owes $1,774.23 on property at 139 Mahanoy St., Tamaqua; and Deborah Crowell owes $1,014.83 on property at 138 Cornerstone Drive, New Ringgold.

Credit card debt

Asset Acceptance, LLC, Warren, Mich., filed against Amanda Montron, 7 Ardmore Avenue, Hometown, Rush Township, alleging $2,799..52 is owed on her credit card.

Cach, LLC, Denver, Colo., filed against Shane S. Puckette, 515 N. Railroad St., Tamaqua, alleging $11,758.81 is owed on his credit card.

Bench warrant hearings

County judges held hearings on bench warrants and disposed as follows:

Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin lifted the bench warrant against Cory Michael Simpson, 21, Pottsville and set a $25,000 straight cash bail. Simpson faces charges of corruption of minors, possession of drug parapahernalia and failing to have a driver's licese as charged by Pottsville Sgt. James R. Joos.

Judge John E. Domalakes dissolved a bench warrant against Robert MIchael Dilorenzo, 22, Auburn, and fixed bail at $1,000 percentage and specified he has 30 days to obtain employment and keep his adult probation officer aware of progress. He faces a charge of selling or furnishing alcohol beverages to a minor as charged by Pottsville Patrolman John Mohl. He was placed in the Accelerated Rehabilative Disposition (ARD) probation program on probation for 12 months last June but violated the rules and was removed and now faces trial.

Revoke parole

Judge Dolbin revoked the parole of five defendants after giving them a hearing on petitions filed by their probation officers.

Nancy Cole, 48, of 13 South St., Tamaqua, was recommitted to the county prison and her 103 days of liberty were disallowed and her new maximum date for release was extended to Oct. 19. The judge ruled she also will not be eligible for re-parole. Cole pleaded guilty to selling cocaine to a confidential informant (CI) and was placed in the Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP).

Kevin R. Ketchledge, 28, Mahanoy City, was committed to the county prison to serve the balance of his sentence and 157 days of liberty disallowed and his new maximum date before release was extended to May 26. He had entered a guilty plea in September 2009 on a charge of driving an all terrain vehicle (ATV) under the influence of alcohol and after serving 48 hours in prison was placed on probation.

Demetrious Mamaroulas Jr., 27, Pottsville, had his parole revoked and three months on liberty taken away and his maximum date was set at June 12, however, he was given credit for time served and granted immediate parole. He had been found guilty by a jury in May 2009 of a charge of possession of a prohibitive weapon (stun gun) and after serving eight months in prison was released on parole. He was cited bty Pottsville Patrolman Mark O'Toole.

Gary Bersavage, 26, Kelayres, Kline Township, had his parole revoked and 380 days of liberty taken away and new max date set at Jan. 3, 2012, however, he was given credit for time spent in prison and released on immediate parole. He had pleaded guilty in February 2009 to charges striking a building on Kennedy Drive, McAdoo, with an aluminum bat and criminal mischief to a vehicle on N. Hancock Street, and after spending 31 days in prison was released on parole. He was cited by McAdoo Patrolman Jeffrey Wainwright.

Randall John Kechula, 49, Mahanoy City, was committed to the county prison and 234 days of liberty taken away and new max date set at Jan. 6, 2012. He had pleaded guilty last February to charges of terroristic threats and after serving 246 days in the county prison was released on parole. He was cited by Mahanoy City Patrolman Charles Kovalewski.

Changing chambers

Between court hearings Judge Charles Miller was moving to the judge's chambers formerly occupied by Judge D. Michael Stine who retired January 3. Miller had his chambers in the "judges' row" on the third floor and will now be located on the second floor and will have one of largest and most modern chambers and courtroom in the building. He previously held court in a make-shift court room located across the hall from his new chambers. Miller is the newest member of the bench.
