Prothonotary's report
A total of 357 cases were started in December in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:
Civil actions, 52; custody complaints, 21; district justice appeals, 6; divorce complaints, 9; ejectment, 2; license appeal, 6; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 26; protection from abuse, 22; quiet title, 6; miscellaneous, 4; judgments,196; and stipulations/waivers of liens, 7. The office staff also received and processed 44 applications for U.S. Passports.
Behrens' financial report shows that $31,411.02 was generated as follows: prothonotary's fees, $24,645.84; interest income, $13.65; PFA Surcharge, courts, $25; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff, $25; custody fees, $600; data processing fees, $6,101.53.
The prothonotary also remitted $3,461.62 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $89.60 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,530 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
