Crashes probed in Monroe County

State police at Fern Ridge reported on crashes probed by troopers recently.

A one-vehicle crash was reported on Dec. 27 about 1 p.m. along Merwinsburg Road, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Peterson Etienne, 21, of Effort, was driving a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero when he lost control on the snow-covered road. The car went onto the berm and struck some small trees and shrubbery. Etienne was not injured.

Also on Dec. 27, about 11:30 a.m., a one-vehicle crash was reported along Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Amro A. Abufkhaida, 34, of Chicago, Ill., was driving a 2004 Ford F150 pickup truck eastbound when he lost control. The truck went onto the south berm and struck a tree head-on with the front end.

Abufkhaida and his passenger, Ghaboun S. Raed, 33, of Countryside, Ill, were injured and taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for treatment of minor injuries, troopers said. Troopers cited Abufkhaida for traveling on roadways laned for traffic.

A one-vehicle mishap was reported about 11:26 p.m. on Dec. 28 along SR209 in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Wanda A. Krych, 62, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire SE northbound when, for unknown reasons, she lost control of the vehicle. The car traveled across the southbound lane and onto the berm and struck some shrubbery.

Krych was not injured.
