A Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Family Ice Fishing program will be held, Sunday, Feb. 6, beginning at 10 a.m., at Mauch Chunk Lake Park, 151 East White Bear Drive, Summit Hill. There is no change for the event, but pre-registration is required by calling Susan Gallagher or Jeannie Carl at (570) 645-8597 at the Carbon County Environmental Education Center or by email at cceec@ptd.net.

Designed by the PFBC for families with little or no fishing experience, its FFP teach basic fishing skills and have an opportunity to practice those skills while fishing together during the program. Because of this, it is important to be on-time for the start of the program, which is instructional.

Topics of instruction will include fishing safety and manners, how to cast and tie knots and practice both of these skills, basic fishing tackle, laws and regulations. This will be followed in the second half of the program with the opportunity to fish.

This program is open to all ages; however, the program is designed for children ages 5 and older because of the hands-on nature of the program. PFBC regulations requiring a fishing license for those 16 and older is waived for participants in the program.
