JT girls, Colts clinch D-11 berths

The Jim Thorpe girls and Marian boys basketball teams both locked up District 11 playoff berths with victories on Wednesday night.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Shenandoah-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe clinched its first district playoff berth since 2002 with a 39-11 victory over Shenandoah.

Celeste Robinson scored 13 of her game-high 16 points in the second half to lead the Olympians. Kristin Lawrence chipped in 12 points.

Shenandoah captured the JV game, 40-28.

Mahanoy Area-Lehighton

Mahanoy Area used a big second quarter to defeat Lehighton, 59-47, in a non-league game.

The loss was Lehighton's fourth in a row as it dropped to 2-10 on the season.

Jordyn Homyak tallied a game-high 25 points for the Indians, who held a six-point lead after one quarter.

In the JV game, Lehighton emerged with a 40-32 victory.

Minersville stormed out to a huge halftime lead, en route to a 50-25 victory over Panther Valley.

Freshman Reighly Melochick poured in 17 points to lead the Battlin' Miners.

For Panther Valley (2-11), Trayvonda Rice scored 10 points.

In the JV game, Minersville pulled off a 19-8 victory.

Williams Vy.-Marian

Marian punched its tickets to the District 11 playoffs with a 60-46 Schuylkill League victory over Williams Valley.

The win improves the Colts' record to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in league play.

Ryan Gimbi poured in a season-high 26 points, including 10 of Marian's 13 points in the third quarter, to lead the Colts. Chris Barletta tacked on 12 points.

Marian was a 56-37 winner in the JV game behind 12 points from Eric Swankoski.

Four different players hit double figures as Northern Lehigh went on to post a 57-49 Colonial League victory over visiting Palisades.

Jordan Waylen led the Bulldogs with a 22-point performance. Caleb Johnson, Lucas Pierce and Devin Glose added 14, 11 and 10 points respectively.

Northern Lehigh improves to 9-3 (5-3 CL). Palisades slips to 5-8 (2-6 CL).

In the JV game, Northern Lehigh escaped with a 48-36 win over Palisades.

Nick Stanovick and Mike Sharpe scored 14 and 13 points respectively for the Bears.

In the JV game, Stroudsburg came away with a 49-39 victory.

Alex Anderson scored 13 of his game-high 16 points in the second quarter as Southern Lehigh led 35-6 at the half.

The Bombers (6-6, 3-4) were led by Cody Geist's nine points.

Southern Lehigh also won the JV game, 63-22.
