Inmate charged with assault

An inmate serving a life term in a state correctional insititution (SCI) in Schuylkill County has been charged with assaulting a state corrections officer causing serious injuries.

State police at Frackville said inmate Anthony Moten, 38, who is being held at the SCI Frackville, was arrested for assaulting guard Donald A. Malick, 39, at the prison on Dec. 14, 2010, about 6:45 a.m.

Troopers charged Moten with one count each of assault by a life prisoner, assault by a prisoner, recklessly endangering another person, and two counts of aggravated assault.

He was arraigned before District Judge Anthony Kilker, of Shenandoah, and remanded back to the state prison on $100,000 straight cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 10 at 10 a.m.

Troopers noted that Malick is still receiving medical treatment for the injuries he sustained in the incident.
