PV School Board
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, July 14, at the district office.
Parking lot repair
The parking lot at Effort UMC will be closed off in sections for periods of time as work is being done there. Work was to begin July 5, weather permitting.
The church's Prayer Garden is to undergo work on July 14. Master Gardener Julie Foley will be one of those in charge.
West End Rotary
The West End Rotary Club will not meet at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, July 7. Instead, the club will hold its installation dinner at 6 p.m. that day at the Hamilton.
Chestnut Hill Seniors
The Brodheadsville site of the Chestnut Hill Seniors, at Zion Lutheran Church, is open Wednesdays and Fridays and is under the management of Doris Phillips. For information call (570) 992-6988.
On Friday, July 8, the menu is chicken Caesar salad. Next week's projected meals are pulled pork on Wednesday, July 13, and chicken salad on Friday, July 15.
UMW meets
Effort UMC's United Methodist Women will meet on July 11.
Members will be preparing Book Bag kits for local children. Donations of school supplies have been sought for the book bags. Devotions will be led by Arvilla Bodemer. Refreshments will be presented by Bodemer and Reta Romanco.
Garden of Giving
The board meeting for the Garden of Giving was moved from Monday, July 4, to Monday, July 11, due to the holiday on the fourth. For more information call (570) 402-1282.
Amputee support
The Amputee Support Group will meet from 2-3 p.m., Saturday, July 9, in the Stroud Conference Room at Pocono Medical Center.
The meeting is free. RSVP to Amy S. Riben at (570) 588-3027.
The group offers emotional support and information for pre- and post-amputees.
Drivers needed
The Monroe Unit of the American Cancer Society is in need of volunteers to drive cancer patients to treatment Monday through Friday, mornings and afternoons. Volunteers may use their own vehicle or one of the ACS vehicles. Training is provided.

Patriotic Coloring Contest winners
The Western Pocono Lioness Club, in cooperation with the West End Park & Open Space Commission, held an annual Patriotic Coloring Contest. Winners are: 1st prize, Madeline Schaefer, 9, Effort; 2nd prize, Emma Sullivan, 10, Saylorsburg; and honorable mention, Charles Zikowski, 11, Effort; Avery Sullivan, 6, Saylorsburg, honorable mention; Isabella Verhige, 7, Albrightsville; and third prize, Joshua Wagner, 10, Brodheadsville. At the event the children colored, made crafts, wrote a letter of love and encouragement to a soldier, and of course enjoyed refreshments.
Interagency officers
Monroe County Interagency will meet at 9 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, at the Penn State Extension office.
The re-elected officers for the 2011-2012 program year are Emily Daly, president; Rory Giovannucci, vice president; Ed Jones, secretary; and Carole Bachman, treasurer.
