Two locals fare well in Pitch, Hit and Run event

During the spring, West Penn Softball held its annual Pitch, Hit and Run Competition at the West Penn Park. Shayna Dietrich, left, and Emily Lawson, right, took first place at the local event. From there the two advanced to Sectionals, which was held at Reading Phillies Stadium, and again the two won the competition. That earned a spot at Regionals, which was held June 25 at Citizens Bank Park home of the Philadelphia Phillies. Dietrich, of New Ringgold, gained a second place finish in the U14 age group while Lawson, of Tamaqua, captured third place in U8.
