Rush-Ryan seniors
The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. held a Summer picnic at the Grier City Playground with 51 members and 2 guests in attendance. The meal was catered by Christy Joy.
President Eleanor Schmerfeld led the group invocation. Activities included a Chinese Auction and bingo.
The group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.
Cross country
The Tamaqua Blue Raider Cross Country Boosters will meet Aug. 17, at 6:30 p.m., on the steps of the Tamaqua Senior High School.
A picnic for team members, grades 7-12, and their families, will be held Aug. 7 at Lake Hauto. For more information, or directions, contact Sara Tite at (570) 645-3117.
Calvary Evangelical
Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church continues hosting services and events at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Rd. The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.
Also Sunday, Christopher Hafer will lead a Bible study session, at 6:30 p.m.
Next Wednesday, there will be an evening of prayer and sharing, beginning at 7 p.m.
St. Peter's Union
The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Summer Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, a farewell fellowship for Rev. Russell Heintzelman will be held following the service.
Zion Lewistown
Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley will conduct a special outdoor service this Sunday, at 10 a.m., at the New Ringgold Boy Scout Camp. A picnic will be held following the service.
The annual church retreat, held in conjunction with Christ Church, McKeansburg, will be held July 29-31 at the New Ringgold Boy Scout Camp.
First Methodist
The Rev. James Cavellero will officiate at the 11 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. The service will include a special collection to benefit Tamaqua fire victims.
Activities for next week include: Monday, Jesus in the Steps program meets at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m., Worship Committee meets at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Property Inventory Committee meets at 9 a.m.
Middle school orientation
Christopher Czapla, principal of the Tamaqua Area Middle School has announced an orientation session will take place at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 8.
Parents of sixth graders, as well as seventh and eighth graders new to the district, are welcome to attend.
Information will be presented on student schedules, activities, facilities and discipline.
Individuals will meet in the school district auditorium, then have the opportunity to tour the building, accompanied by student guides.
Homeroom assignments will be posted on the school's front/main door as of Aug. 1.
