A Schuylkill County woman was arrested earlier this week and charged with assaulting police while under the influence of bath salts.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident occurred about 7:45 p.m. May 11 along Cadbury Street in Palo Alto.

Troopers responded to the scene to a report of a disturbance.

On scene troopers encountered Elizabeth Norris, 39, of Palo Alto, and a male, both who appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

Troopers attempted to render aid to Norris but she became combative. The first responding trooper then attempted to restrain her and she fought with him.

A second trooper arrived to assist and both attempted to restrain her.

Pepper spray was used on her but it had no affect.

Additional officers from other police agencies arrived and she was finally taken into custody.

She was then transported to a Pottsville hospital for treatment.

On Monday, May 16, troopers took Norris into custody and charged her with aggravated assault and related charges. She was arraigned before District Judge David Plachko, of Port Carbon, and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.

The two troopers involved in the initial incident sustained minor injuries, it was noted.
