Free concerts
The West End Park Open Space Commission will present a series of free concerts in area parks this summer. The kickoff concert will be Sunday, June 26 from 6-8 p.m. at the Chestnuthill Park, Route 715, Brodheadsville.
Leigh Lombardo-Cole and Chris Eckert will feature the music of Neil Diamond, Patsy Cline and others.
Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

PIC beauty
Pride in Chestnuthill (PIC) recently planted flowers in barrels at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building, which were provided by Nancy, from The Flower Tent near Kinsley's.
On June 9, PIC held its monthly meeting.
PIC will be judging the 6th annual Chestnuthill Township Beautification Award in August, open to any business in the township.
Businesses are judged not only on cleanliness and landscaping, but also on seasonal flower plantings.
A clean, well-landscaped business is not only attractive, but attracts customers. PIC members hope to see a lot of color out there this year.
PIC will not meet in July and August. The next monthly meeting will be 7 p.m., Sept. 8 at the municipal building.

Confirmation held
Eight young people were confirmed at St. Peter's UMC and two persons were baptized on Pentecost Sunday, June 12.
The church will hold its Vacation Bible School from July 18-22. Classes will be held during daytime hours, from 9 a.m. to noon.

AARP driver course
A four-hour AARP Driver Safety Program course will be held from 1-5 p.m., Saturday, June 18, at the Chestnuthill Park Building.

Those wishing to participate in the abbreviated course must have evidence of having previously taken the eight-hour course within the past three years.
Pharmacist speaks
On Monday, June 20, the Western Pocono Women's Club will welcome pharmacist, Gary Butz who will talk about drug interactions. The WPWC is a service group that meets the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Effort Methodist Church.

Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is slated to meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, June 23, at the district office.
Organ Donor Awareness
Kinsley's ShopRite will hold its first Annual Organ Donor Awareness Day from noon to 4 p.m., Friday, June 24.
The free event will include a moon bounce, balloon animals, face painting, organ donor bracelets and pins and celebrity baggers, including legislators and Sheriff Todd Martin.
A Red Cross blood drive will be held on site.
Andy the Armadillo will be present giving out coupons and kids meal.
Civil War Road Show
The PA Civil War Show is coming to Quiet Valley, Monroe County's living historical farm, June 24-26.
Commemorating the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, the free show will include interactive exhibits and activities.

VBS at Countryside
Countryside Alliance Church, Route 115 and Countryside Drive, Brodheadsville, will host its Vacation Bible School with the Good News Puppets, from 6:30-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, Thursday, 7 and Friday July 8. Activities will include puppet shows, skits, games, snacks and face painting.

Senior Crime Prevention
Janene Holter of the attorney general's office will present a program on Senior Crime Prevention at 11:15 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, at the Chestnuthill Senior Center, located at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville. The program is free and open to the public.
