Coaldale woman facing DUI count
Coaldale police have charged a borough woman, whose blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, with driving under the influence (DUI).
Michele L. Romig, 38, of 101 E. High St., was charged with DUI by Officer Jeremy Talanca at 3:20 a.m. April 5.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, here's what happened:
Talanca was on patrol in the area of High and Third streets when he heard loud music playing. He saw a 2002 GMC envoy parked on Third Street facing north.
The vehicle was running with the windows down and Talanca could see two people inside.
He activated his emergency lights and pulled behind the vehicle. He approached the driver's side and made contact with Romig. As he noticed her, she removed the keys from the ignition and threw them in the back seat.
Talanca told her he had seen what she did. He observed that her eyes were glassy and that she emitted a strong odor of alcohol. Her passenger, 20, was also intoxicated.
Talanca asked Romig to take a breath test. She agreed but failed to properly perform the test.
Romig was arrested for DUI and taken to St. Luke's Miners Memorial hospital in the borough for a blood test.
On May 2, Talanca was notified that Romig's blood alcohol level was 0.16 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is the drunken driving threshold, according to law.
Romig is charged with DUI - highest rate of alcohol, DUI and disorderly conduct - unreasonable noise.
Romig, along with several others, was charged the same day with possession of liquified ammonia gas and other dangerous chemicals, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamines and related charges.
