Illegal immigrant arrested in Carbon

A traffic stop in a Carbon County borough led to the arrest of an illegal immigrant.

Beaver Meadows police chief Micheal Morresi stopped a vehicle for speeding along SR93 on Wednesday, June 15, about 4:26 p.m. The vehicle was clocked at going 50.16 miles-per-hour in a 35 zone.

The driver was identified as Arturo Vilchis, 35, of 507 W. Tiglhman St., Allentown. While at the stop Morriesi noticed that the passenger was acting nervous. Morriesi asked him for identification. The male said he did not have any ID on him. He then was asked his name and birth date.

Morriesi said the passenger provided the name Eduardo Samano-Lopez and a date of birth. The name and date was run with no record found. He was asked again for a name and this time provided Cipriano Vigil-Samano and another birth date. That name came back and it turned out he was wanted by the U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) for his fourth re-entry into the country.

Records also showed that Samano, 41, of Mexico, was wanted in California on charges for drug possession. Samano also admitted being arrested in Texas twice for drug possession and twice for grand theft auto.

The ICE faxed a detainer to Morries and Samano was placed in the Carbon County prison in Nesquehoning pending ICE picking him up.

Vilchis was charged with speeding and operating a vehicle without financial responsibility. His vehicle was impounded and towed from the scene.
