Carbon crashes
State police at Lehighton reported on two crashes investigated by troopers on Carbon County roadways.
On Friday, June 17, a two-vehicle crash occurred about 2:55 p.m. along SR209 in Towamensing Township. Troopers said Robert W. Cotton, 58, of Palmerton, was operating a 2001 Nissan Frontier when he made an improper left turn across 209 and his vehicle was struck by a 2003 Harley-Davidson Ultra motorcycle operated by Thomas M. McGrogan, 68, of Kunkletown.
McGrogan was thrown from the bike and received moderate injuries. He was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, by Palmerton ambulance. Cotton was not injured. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
Troopers said Cotton was cited for improper left turn.
The second crash occurred about 4:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, along SR895 in East Penn Township. Troopers said William C. Hartzell Jr., 53, of Lehighton, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina northbound when a deer entered the road in front of him. Hartzell hit the gas pedal rather than brake which caused the vehicle to leave the road and strike the guard rail.
Hartzell was not injured. He was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic, troopers said.
