Defending league champs suffer first loss
The Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC) summer basketball league rolled into its second full week of competition with eight games on Monday and Wednesday evening.
Cuz-N-Joe's Place, Guerilla Squad, and Ryan's Oil & Heating all had wins this week to keep them atop the standings with undefeated records (4-0), while defending league champion R.R. Frey Services suffered its first setback of the season.
MONDAY'S RESULTS
Weikel Sportswear-
Cuz-N-Joe's Place
A close game to start out the day with Cuz-N-Joe's Place grabbing a 70-63 win over Weikel Sportswear.
For Cuz-N-Joe's, Soko Mujovic hitseven three-pointers and had 24 points in the win.
Mike Stankowitch had a game-high 25 points to lead Weikel's.
Ryan's Oil & Heating-
Big Dippers
Ryan's Oil & Heating opened the game on a 9-0 run before a late Big Dippers' rally forced overtime. However, Ryan's took charge in the extra sessonand came away with a77-72 overtime victory..
Jeff Peel had 19 points andfive treys to aid in Ryan's victory.
J.J. Reinmiller scored 20 points in the Dippers defeat.
Progressive Vision Institute-
Kupres Twins Photography
Both teams were missing some key players for the game and it factored into the decision with Kupres Twins Photography emerging with a 60-37 vcitory.
Dwayne Gilley scored 20 points andknocked down threetreys for Kupres Twins Photography.
Tony Stoeckel led Progressive Vision Institute with 20 points in the loss.
R.R. Frey Services-
Guerilla Squad
In the game of the game of the night, Guerilla Squad knocked off defending champs R.R. Frey Services with a 49-37 victory.
Dave Wilson scored 23 points against his former teamto lead Guerilla Squad.
For R.R. Frey Services, Ryan Achenbach had 13 points in the loss.
WEDNESDAY'S RESULTS
Kupres Twins Photography-
Ryan's Oil & Heating
Ryan's Oil & Heating poured it on Kupres Twins Photography toremain undefeated on the season with a 107-86 victory.
Playing indoors at the Tamaqua Salvation Army, Joe Schaeffer broke an ESRC record hitting 13 three-pointers inthe game and scoring a league-high 39 points for Ryan's Oil & Heating, who combined for 20 three-pointers as a team.
Bekim Mehmeti scored 24 for Kupres Twins in the loss.
Guerilla Squad-
Weikel Sportswear
Guerila Squadwent on a 15-0 run in the first half, en route to a 41-35 victory over Weikel Sportswear.
Dave Wilson scored 13 pointsto paceGuerilla Squad.
In Weikel's loss, John Rizzo scored 13 points.
Lucky's Deli-
Cuz-N-Joe's Place
Cuz-N-Joes Place tallied an 81-68 victory over Lucky's Deli to remain undefeared on the season.
Ethan Eichorst had a game-high 32 points for Cuz-N-Joe's.
Travis Leonarczyk had 20 points in the loss for Lucky's Deli.
B & R Gym-Big Dippers
B & R Gym got back on the winning track with a 80-45 victory over Big Dippers.
Ted Styka scored 16 points in B & R Gym's victory.
Mark Wartman scored 30 of Big Dippers' 45 points.
