Adult day care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center is looking for interested adults to serve on its board of directors. The board meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month. Anyone willing to serve may call (570) 668-6556.

Activities for the month of July will include: communion and jackpot bingo, July 11; picnic day, July 12; sing along with Audrey Christ, July 13; guest speaker from Weatherwood, July 14; cooking class, July 15; special breakfast, July 18; luau, July 19; Salvation Army visit, July 20; show and tell, July 27; craft day, July 28; monthly birthday party, July 29.

In addition to weekly sing-alongs and social games, hairstyling and manicure services are also available. Both require advance notice.

Daily activities include exercise, reality orientation, remotivational and reminiscent therapy, as well as breakfast, lunch and a snack.

Calvary Evangelical

Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church will begin meeting for its services and events at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Rd., this weekend. The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service. Nursery care is available. The service will include special patriotic music. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also Sunday, members are welcome to attend the Auburn camp meeting, at 6 p.m., in Hamburg.

Next Wednesday, there will be an evening of prayer and sharing, beginning at 7 p.m.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include Holy Communion and will be followed by a youth group meeting.

Activities for next week include: on Thursday prayer group meeting at 5 p.m., Confirmation class meeting at 6 p.m. and Brownies meeting at 6:30 p.m.

The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Junior Choir rehearsal at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir rehearsal at 7:45 p.m.

Cressona band

The Cressona Band will perform a free mini concert at 7 p.m. July 13 at the East End Playground. Rain date will be July 14, same time and place.

The public is welcome to attend. Featured music will include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school for all ages will be at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, parents of the TYM members preparing to leave on a mission will meet at 11:45 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: on Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; on Wednesday, GriefShare, adult Bible study and TYM meetings at 6:30 p.m.; and on Saturday, Men's breakfast at 8 a.m., musician rehearsal at 9 a.m. and praise practice at 9:30 a.m.

'Hometown Nazareth' VBS July 11-15

Zion and St. John Lutheran churches in Tamaqua are hosting "Hometown Nazareth - Where Jesus was a Kid," a vacation Bible school program from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 11 to 15. To register, call the church office at (570) 668-2180 and leave the child's name, age, address, phone number and parents' name or call VBS director Deb Davies at (570) 668-4554. The program will take place at Zion Lutheran Church, 101 North Greenwood Street, Tamaqua, which is handicapped accessible.

The Amazing Magi

A free family magic show is coming to Zion Lutheran Church 101 North Greenwood Street, Tamaqua at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 24, featuring the Rev. Michael Reist of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stony Creek, Berks County. Refreshments will be served following the show. Call (570) 668-2180 for more information. Zion is handicapped accessible.
