Crashes probed
State police at Lehighton reported on three crashes probed by troopers, all occurring on Tuesday, March 1, with one driver facing a driving under the influence (DUI) charge.
The DUI crash occurred about 6:15 p.m. along Flyte Road, near Anchorage Road, in Ross Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Robert D. Templeton, 56, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2000 Hyundai Sonata when he lost control of the vehicle. The Sonata went onto the berm and struck several small trees and shrubs. It came to rest against the trees about 15 feet north of the road.
Templeton was found to be under the influence and was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.
A one vehicle crash occurred about 8:08 a.m. along Forest Inn Road, just south of Oak St., in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Christine L. Waterhouse, 38, of Palmerton, was driving a 2006 Kia Sorento southbound when she lost control on ice patches on the roadway. The Kia traveled off the right side of the road and struck an embankment. It then struck a tree and rolled over before coming to rest on its wheels in the southbound lane.
Waterhouse sustained a moderate injury in the crash but did not require immediate medical attention.
Another one vehicle crash occurred about 8:38 p.m. along Jonas Road, near SR534, in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Rodney E. Durant, 63, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2005 Toyota Tundra pickup truck westbound when he lost control due to ice on the road. The truck crossed the eastbound lane and onto the berm where it struck a building.
Durant was not injured but the truck had to be towed from the scene.
